A recent study of 50,000 children from 20 countries has shown that those children eating three or more burgers a week could have a higher risk of having asthma. Children who ate a Mediterranean diet (fruit, vegetables and fish) appeared to have a lower risk of developing asthma.
The paper, recently published in Thorax, suggested that a diet rich in fruit and vegetables may be helpful because of the protective effects of antioxidants and vitamin C. Whereas high levels of unhealthy fats in burgers could increase the risk of asthma.
